Job Description


The EDR Associate Engineer role is a key role at DELTA |v|. DELTA |v| reconstructs motor vehicle collisions based on advanced engineering techniques. One of our flagship services includes the harvesting of information contained in event data recorders (EDRs) in heavy trucks and passenger vehicles. We have a dedicated lab for the recovery of information from EDRs at our Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters. Our engineers are routinely asked to interpret the meaning of this data and apply it to the reconstruction of motor vehicle crashes. Our engineering experts are often asked to testify about their findings in legal proceedings, such as depositions, mediations, and trials. This entry-level position will be in Charlotte, North Carolina.  


Responsibilities


  • Processing EDR modules by imaging data and preparing client-facing reports
  • Conducting fieldwork to image EDRs on collision-damaged vehicles (50% or more regional travel)
  • Supporting reconstruction engineers by analyzing EDR data imaged during their fieldwork
  • Creating custom software and building hardware to image data from new EDRs
  • Chip-level data recovery to obtain data from burned or mechanically damaged EDRs
  • Conducting original research into the validity of EDR data captured during a collision event
  • Publishing technical papers at SAE and other industry forums regarding advances in EDR technologies
  • Providing internal training and support as a resident expert in EDR technologies
  • Participating in our SAE sponsored training events on EDR technologies
  • Maintaining all computers and software packages dedicated to EDR imaging
  • Creating internal procedures and documentation for processing EDRs


Skills and Qualifications


  • MS. (preferred) or B.S. in Automotive Engineering or similar discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering) with an emphasis on the mobility industry
  • Less than 2 years of working experience. We will consider more years of experience if the candidate understands that the position is entry-level within the company’s engineering framework
  • Interest/experience in motor vehicles
  • Experience with fabrication and/or microcontrollers is a plus
  • Available to travel regionally
  • Comfortable working on a team and in a collaborative space
  • Positive attitude full of commitment and a desire to contribute
